Greater Lawrence Community Action Council Family/Community Engagement Coordinator in Lawrence, Massachusetts

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for the engagement of families and the community into the Head Start and Early Head Start 

programs, with a focus on culturally and linguistically responsive relationship-building with key family 

members in a child’s life. The Coordinator will explore ways to use practical tools and the Parent, Family and 

Community Engagement Frameworks resources to support the program’s implementation of family and 

community engagement.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:

  • Family Engagement: 

  • Plans, formulates and carries out goals, policies and activities designed to implement parent engagement 

  • objectives. 

  • Community Engagement: 

  • Builds an awareness of community events 

  • Maintains relationships within the agency to coordinate participation in community events 

  • Governance: 

  • Responsible for management of the Policy Council, assuring representation from PC to the GLCAC, BOD. 

  • Works with the Head Start Management Team to provide training to PC and build team spirit among staff. 

  • Oversight: 

  • Managing volunteerism including: recruitment; training; assigning and scheduling parent volunteers to the 

  • program and integrating plans for involving parents. 

  • Procure new sources of non-federal share opportunities. 

  • Ongoing communication reported to Early Learning Director and Family Support Services Manager regarding 

  • Community Engagement. 

  • Oversight of Parents and Community Partner recognition ceremonies. 

  •  Support school readiness activities and parent engagement, including monthly planned events and calendar. 

  • Other duties as assigned based on the program’s needs.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in coordinating volunteer opportunities, including recruitment and training, as placing and tracking hours. Experience and familiarity with Head Start, preferably with knowledge of program governance 

  •  Family /community engagement experience. 

  •  Must have use of a car/means of transportation and valid Driver’s License. 

  • Flexible schedule is required to meet the needs of our children and families; including some 

  • evenings/weekends. 

  • Ability to read, write, and express oneself in English and Spanish. 

  •  Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable. 

  •  Show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test and proof of MMR immunity. 

  • (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable). 

  • Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background suitable fingerprint disposition on file prior to employment

  • Ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, including underserved communities and people from the different racial groups, socioeconomic statuses, nationalities, and languages that make up GLCAC’s clientele, to support the agency’s mission of building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization for employees and clients alike.

Other:

Supervisory and Support Responsibilities: Volunteers - Policy Council 

Travel: Is required for trainings, meetings and to visit other sites. 

Physical Demands: This job regularly requires the employee to sit, walk and stand as well as use hands 

repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, 

crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or 

move up to 25 pounds. 

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office 

equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.
