Registered Nurse (RN) at the Lawrence Community Behavioral health Center (CBHC)

Job Description:

  • Schedule: Full-Time, Mon-Fri (8am-4:30pm) - No Weekends!

The Registered Nurse (RN) supports psychiatric and mental health practice at the ambulatory clinic of the Community Behavioral Health Center in Lawrence. They champion integration of medical screening, health maintenance and coordination of medical services for the ambulatory clinic of the CBHC. They are overseeing the functioning of the Medical Assistant(s) at the clinic. This position functions as part of the multidisciplinary team, taking care of the patients of the ambulatory clinic. At times, it may be necessary to also assist in taking care of medical and psychiatric needs of persons served at the urgent care and mobile crisis services, particularly with medical clearance and acceptance of patients. Assistance with emergencies in the Community Crisis Services (CCS) may be necessary as well.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborates with medical and advance practice personnel in the care of persons served at the CBHC.

  2. Contributes to the comprehensive assessment of clients seeking services by, for instance, collecting vital signs, assessing the client for signs of substance withdrawal using the Clinical Opioid Withdrawal Scale (COWS), Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) and the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Benzodiazepines (CIWA B).

  3. Administer other scales, assessments and rating scales as indicated, for instance PHQ-9, SDoH screening etc.

  4. Coordinates and contributes to best practices regarding medical monitoring of patients, for instance for metabolic monitoring.

  5. Assists with (re)filling of orders, administers medication and completes the medication reconciliation process.

  6. Coordinates the medical care of clients including participating in transition and discharge planning.

  7. Conducts brief crisis counseling and individualized risk management/safety planning, provides psychoeducation and coordinates medical care.

  8. Determines medical stability for police and EMT drop offs.

  9. Determines medical stability for disposition to 24-hour level of care.

  10. Assists in management of the care of all persons served, particularly of those receiving medication management.

Qualifications:

  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required

  • Experience working in a behavioral health care setting preferred.

  • Strong diagnostic skills; competence in crisis intervention and engagement strategies.

  • Must be able to quickly establish rapport with a wide range of clinical presentations.

  • Knowledge of vast array of community resources and how to access them.
