MIT Lincoln Laboratory Business Manager in Lexington, Massachusetts

The Advanced Capabilities and Systems Group is an agile, innovative, multi-disciplinary team developing novel system and technology concepts that address the nation’s critical security challenges. The Group leverages focused analysis to understand solutions to defense and intelligence problems, and then develops the solutions in a fast cycle of experimentation and prototyping. The Group supports the Army, Air Force, Navy, Special Operations Forces, the Intelligence Community, and other government agencies in a wide variety of prototyping efforts. The Group consists of talented technical staff with expertise in electromagnetics, signal processing, radio frequency systems, antenna design, statistics, optimization, machine learning, autonomous control, software engineering, and embedded systems.

Position Description

The Advanced Capabilities & Systems Group is seeking a business manager to administer to the Group’s financial portfolio and business operations. Responsibilities include cost estimating, budget preparation, monitoring financial performance and funding status, internal/external reporting, and program closeouts, while ensuring compliance with laboratory financial policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include management of procurements, accounts payable issues, property issues, personnel logistics, timesheet approval, and other administrative and operational needs of the group.

The Group business manager is an integral part of the group’s management team and will be expected to take an active role in personnel management, recruiting, facilities planning, external customer interactions, service provider interactions, procurement activities, and financial reporting. The business manager will maintain a working knowledge of project management best practices and assist Group staff with obtaining operational support to execute complex programs. The business manager will also be responsible for the training and oversight of the Group’s assistant business manager and administrative assistant.

Requirements

  • BS in Finance or related field. MS/MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a technical environment supporting multiple people and projects is preferred

  • Advanced skills in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to create database files and pivot tables

  • Comfort working with various Excel functions (e.g. VLOOKUP, SUMIF, etc.)

  • Familiarity with Excel macros is a plus. Experience with SAP is a plus

  • Demonstrated capability presenting ideas both written and orally within a cross-functional environment

  • Ability to analyze, discuss, and present financial results/reports

  • Ability to work independently, seek out answers to problems, and drive positive change within an organization

  • Program management experience is preferred

    Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
