MIT Lincoln Laboratory ESD Technician in Lexington, Massachusetts

Job Description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Technician to join our ESD control team. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring the protection of sensitive electronic equipment and components from electrostatic discharge during manufacturing, testing, and assembly processes. You will work closely with technicians and engineers to ensure compliance with internal and industry ESD standards and best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ESD principles, hands-on experience with ESD-safe procedures, and a commitment to supporting the cutting-edge research and development at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, monitor, and maintain ESD-safe workstations, equipment, and environments.

  • Run an internal class to train staff on ESD fundamentals and proper handling procedures using currently developed material including live demonstrations of key concepts.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of ESD control programs and policies.

  • Perform troubleshooting and corrective actions for any ESD-related issues in the laboratory.

  • Maintain accurate records of ESD equipment installations and inspections.

  • Work closely with engineers and technicians to ensure compliance with ESD requirements.

  • Assist in the testing of materials and tools for ESD compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or training in ESD control preferred.

  • Familiarity with ESD-safe tools, materials, and best practices.

  • Basic knowledge of electronics and the importance of ESD protection in the manufacturing and testing of electronic components.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good organizational and record-keeping skills.

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety and quality.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with diverse teams.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an electronics laboratory or manufacturing environment.

  • TR53 Certification in ESD control from the ESD Association is a plus.

  • Experience with ESD audits and compliance assessments.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Excel and Word.
