Job Description

The Graphic Artist is responsible for strategic vision of design, layout, and production of presentations, technical illustrations, and posters in both electronic and printed media formats. Working with technical staff and management, the Graphic Artist will develop impactful, high-quality graphics, images, and illustrations to effectively convey complex technical concepts. Must be able to grasp complex technical concepts and translate them into high-quality visual content.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise technical staff on best practices for producing creative graphic images and/or videos

  • Design/deliver technical illustrations and displays to support sponsor reviews, technical initiatives, and scientific workshops/conferences/special events

  • Responsible for ensuring design and branding consistency

  • Adaptable to changing deadlines and priorities, ensures project deadlines are maintained

  • Enforces Laboratory's design standards

  • Maintain awareness of the formal requirements of logo use, Laboratory identity, communication templates, security markings, and release review notations

Required:

  • BA/BFA or Certificate in Communication Design, Graphic Design, related field or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated capabilities in presenting ideas written and orally within a cross-functional environment required

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop

  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications, emphasis on PowerPoint, in both a Mac and PC environment

  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment, as well as take ownership of projects

  • Effective communication skills

  • Working knowledge of current graphic art production standards, practices and terminology, and functional facility with composition and information graphics

  • Knowledge of video editing

  • Experience with video editing software, such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Animate, Cinema 4D, Premiere, or Final Cut Pro

  • Knowledge of UI/UX design and/or data visualization preferred

  • Portfolio of current work must be submitted with resume (website or PDF)

  • Portfolio of sample work is required at time of interview

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance is required

Preferred:

Experience: 5+ years of visual design experience with emphasis on technical content, in a busy/deadline-oriented environment
