MIT Lincoln Laboratory Mechanical Engineer-Assistant Staff in Lexington, Massachusetts
The Mechanical Engineering Group focuses on developing innovative mechanical design solutions for ground, airborne, and spaceborne applications. Areas of mechanical design expertise include large structures, mechanisms, opto-mechanical systems, and electronics packaging. Engineers from the Group are critical to all aspects of program execution beginning with conceptual design, continuing through detail design, system integration and test, and concluding with environmental and performance testing. The Group is the Engineering Division's center for 3D computer-aided design. Example projects include airborne and space-based laser communications systems, space based sensors, missile defense technology, and vehicle mounted radars and large radar antenna systems.
Position Description
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide support for the mechanical design, analysis and testing of complex mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Responsibilities will include design, analyses, integration, and testing of complex hardware from conceptual design through fabrication and field performance evaluation. The candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals with a strong academic background and be capable of taking on a broad range of challenging problems involving structures, mechanisms, thermal systems, optics and electronics. The successful candidate will be expected to present the design concepts to both internal and external audiences. This position involves working in close-knit teams with design, analyses and test personnel. The position may involve travel to meetings and field sites.
Requirements
Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals with strong academic background.
Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills and require little or no supervision.
