The Translational Medicine department is located within Global Translation, Research and Early Development at Novo Nordisk.

As part of the corporate global R&D strategy, the Translational Medicine department has a focus on the development and deployment of pharmacodynamic biomarkers in Phase 1 trials together with prospective stop/go criteria to facilitate data-driven decision-making. We work in multi-disciplinary teams to ensure translational medicine biomarkers are integral from the earliest research experiments through to early clinical studies. Our commitment is to build a presence and differentiated pipeline with an increased probability of success and to the benefit of patients. In Global Translation, we cover a significant part of the Novo Nordisk value chain. We follow the projects from early research to end-of-Phase 1 clinical development. The Position

Novo Nordisk is seeking a dynamic and innovative Translational Medicine Lead to join Translational Medicine, Research and Early Development team in Boston. This role is pivotal in enhancing our clinical development processes and developing differentiated products to meet the unmet medical needs of future patients. As a Translational Medicine Lead, you will be responsible for leading biomarker sub-teams, ensuring the integration of translational medicine biomarkers from early research experiments through to early clinical studies.

Relationships

Reports to the head of the Translational Medicine

Internal relationships include working closely with technical staff & other members of the scientific leadership team; regular collaborations with members of other research departments at Novo Nordisk; & frequent interaction with project managers & other colleagues across global R&D. Individual may direct the work of other staff members. Individual will interact with external research collaborators both academia- & industry-based.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the development and deployment of target engagement and pharmacodynamic biomarkers in Phase 1 trials.

  • Implement prospective stop/go criteria to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the successful integration of biomarkers.

  • Build and develop the scientific knowledge in the area of biomarkers, precision medicine and relevant therapeutic areas including obtaining advice from external experts

  • Participate in updates of processes and SOPs where Translational Medicine is involved

  • Input to the general direction of clinical development based on the principles of Translational- and Precision Medicine

  • Communicate effectively across all organizational levels, functions, and cultures.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations to diverse audiences, including presentations to internal teams and external partners as well as scientific publications and presentations.

    Qualifications

  • PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience required (can be a combination of industry and academic roles)

  • Relevant experience includes:

  • Translational experience bridging preclinical and clinical work, with a scientific background in metabolic and/or cardiovascular disease being advantageous.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an emphasis on presentation abilities

  • Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels, functions, and cultures, enabling them to be an inspiring and strong collaborator.

  • A pioneering attitude aimed at increasing innovation in clinical development and creating differentiated products to address the unmet medical needs of future patients.

  • A dynamic self-starter capable of proactively leading teams and projects.

  • Preferred experience :

  • Demonstrated ability in strategically developing and implementing pharmacodynamic biomarkers during the drug development process.

  • Experience in developing and deploying pharmacodynamic biomarkers in clinical trials.
