Novo Nordisk Senior Scientist - In Vivo Pharmacology in Lexington, Massachusetts

The Position

The Senior (Sr.) Scientist will provide scientific leadership in the identification and validation of new drug targets, advancing novel therapies to the clinic, and developing technologies to accelerate scientific research. This will be achieved by proposing and leading internal and external research efforts to support project goals. The Sr. Scientist will represent the organization as a subject matter expert to the external scientific community through the publication and presentation of research, and through the development, management, and leadership of external collaborations. The individual will be seen across the company and beginning to be viewed externally as a method/subject expert for one or two technologies or area(s) of biology.

Relationships

Reports to the head of the In Vivo Pharmacology at Novo Nordisk site in Boston area. Internal relationships include working closely with technical staff & other members of the scientific leadership team; regular collaborations with members of other research departments at NNRCSI; & frequent interaction with project managers & other colleagues across global R&D. Individual may direct the work of other staff members. Individual will interact with external research collaborators both academia- & industry-based.

Essential Functions

  • Subject area expert and proven scientific excellence in the field of central nervous system control of cardiometabolic disorders.

  • Knowledge of energy expenditure, disordered eating behaviours and counter regulation of body weight in the contest of obesity is required.

  • Extensive industry experience and demonstrated expertise in designing and conducting in vivo pharmacology studies to validate human relevance and support a variety of research efforts including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, mode of action, target validation and lead identification.

  • Analyse complex data with high degree of sophistication, connect disparate datasets to reach conclusions, and communicate project updates and experimental results to relevant stakeholders

  • Develop and implement new models, methods, and technologies for in vivo/ex vivo testing of biological activities of new targets.

  • Experience with in vivo intracanal manipulations, meal pattern analyses using automated feeding systems and calorimetry is highly desired.

  • Expertise in vivo imaging including in vivo calcium signalling imaging, echoMRI and/or PET imaging is highly desired.

  • Experience in project leadership in industry settings; function as project leader for global, cross-functional experimental teams to achieve project goals and communicate regularly with international colleagues within Novo Nordisk

  • Identify biology-, target-, or technology-focused gaps and be able to propose solutions for long-term benefit of the projects and the department.

  • Excellent organizational skills and high degree of emotional intelligence with ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Author, oversee and maintain protocols, study procedures, reports and documentations.

  • Mentor and provide scientific leadership to junior team members, develop synergy with senior team members and foster a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.

  • Proven record of scientific excellence through contributions to high impact publications and presentations.

  • Represent the organization as NN-subject matter expert by attending and presenting at scientific conferences and global meetings.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor 's Degree within subject matter expertise required, advanced degree preferred

  • Doctoral degree with 6+ years’ post-doctoral and/or industry relevant experience or a master’s degree with 12+ years’ of relevent industry experience. 18+ years’ of relevant industry experience may also be considered.

  • Significant experience in drug discovery, research and development in pharmaceutical industry settings is highly desired.

  • Scientific knowledge in central regulation of metabolism and cardiometabolic diseases

  • Extensive expertise in in vivo workflows, experimental design, execution, data analysis and interpretation is a must

  • Experience in in vivo imaging, meal pattern analyses using automated feeding systems and calorimetry is highly desired

  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with translational aspects of the model(s).
