MIT Lincoln Laboratory Sr. Financial Analyst in Lexington, Massachusetts

Job Description

The Financial Services Department (F$D) Operations section is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to partner with the Funding Manager in managing over $1.4 billion in government sponsor funds annually. This includes overseeing more than 2,000 individual transactions via Air Force prime contract modifications. The role involves frequent communication with Air Force staff on Hanscom AF Base and MIT LL technical divisions, providing updates on contract modifications, financial decisions and policy changes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Funding Manager to process daily funding activities with the Air Force finance and contracting offices. Review program sponsor funding documents and maintain contract modification files.

  • Manage the processing of new R&D program start packages, program Period of Performance (PoP) and Total Estimated Cost (TEC) increases, and funding de-obligation requests.

  • Track programs with a funding deficit and coordinate necessary remediation.

  • Utilize the Laboratory’s SAP S/4HANA financial system and the Air Force’s FinCon system to execute financial transactions.

  • Prepare the weekly MIT LL Director’s Office funding and new start PowerPoint briefing.

  • Work with the F$D Planning & Analysis section to maintain and create new charts as needed for the SAP Analytics Cloud Financial Performance Dashboard.

  • Maintain shared folders and documentation in accordance with established processes and procedures.

  • Use Excel Analysis add-ins, Business Warehouse, and SAP S/4HANA to analyze funding data and collaborate with technical divisions and the Air Force

  • Assist the Funding Manager in streamlining and improving processes to ensure the Funding Team and technical divisions have accurate data for efficient decision-making and task completion

  • Develop and maintain models to project future business outcomes and assess potential impacts by monitoring FinCon system reports, ensuring the Funding Team operates proactively and provides timely updates to the technical divisions.

  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of information.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.

  • Participate in other projects and analyses as required.

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Management, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • A minimum of 5 years of financial management experience.

  • Strong ability to analyze and present financial data clearly and concisely.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, including VLOOKUPs, XLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, SUMIFs, and other advanced functions for modeling, graphing, and table manipulation.

  • SAP proficiency preferred; experience with SAP S/4HANA is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve effectively.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects.
