The Advanced Electro-Optical Systems Group specializes in the rapid design and prototyping of innovative electro-optic systems that address challenges facing the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, and other U.S. government entities. The group maintains broad expertise in satellite systems, electro-optical and infrared sensors, charge-coupled devices, electronics, image processing, and low–size/weight/power optical communications systems. The vertically-integrated group leverages this core expertise to architect, design, prototype, and deploy hardware and software systems in support of mission needs. Emphasis is on working closely with end users to develop enabling concepts, then building and fielding integrated systems on responsive timelines. The group seeks self-motivated engineers and scientists with multidisciplinary skill sets and a passion for prototyping systems that address critical national needs.

Job Description

The Group seeks a Senior Optical Engineer to join our prototyping team. The employee will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary group of optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers to design, prototype, and deploy high-integrated electro-optic systems for use terrestrially and in space. The candidate should be self-motivated, with a demonstrated capability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and to autonomously identify and solve problems.

The vertically-integrated group develops systems from the concept phase through prototyping and deployment. As such, the employee will have the opportunity to do impactful work across the full optical systems lifecycle, and must have expertise with optical and opto-mechanical design, analysis, assembly, alignment, and test.

The collaborative nature of the role requires the successful applicant to work fully on site.

Requirements:

PhD in Optical Engineering or MS with at least 5 years of experience

Expertise with Zemax software

Desired Skills:

Experience with:

  • Space-borne electro-optic systems

  • Stray light analysis

  • SWIR and LWIR systems

  • Sensor physics

  • Statistical optics
