Eastern Bank Operational Risk Specialist III, AVP (Business Continuity Management) in Lynn, Massachusetts

The primary function of the AVP Operational Risk Specialist III is to provide support for the bank’s Operational Risk Management Business Continuity Management (BCM) Program. As part of the second line of defense, the individual will act as an advisor in identifying risks and controls that influence the organizations’ ability to meet strategic and risk appetite objectives. The individual works closely with other governance and control functions such as Internal Audit, Third Party Risk Management, and Information Security, as well as the Business Lines/Technology to ensure operational risks at the Bank are appropriately, identified, risk ranked, monitored, and mitigated with effective business continuity controls and disaster recovery testing.

  • Continuously improve, manage, and execute the Business Continuity Management and Disaster Recovery program and risk solutions to support operational resiliency.

  • Responsible for leading efforts in identifying emerging BCM risks and trends and making recommendations to senior management regarding ways to enhance processes, assess testing needs, and identify program efficiencies. Able to work well across business lines with key stakeholders to help develop strategies and respond to changing circumstances.

  • Must align BCM strategy with the overall ORM strategy with greater ERM and Eastern strategy.

  • Evaluate and oversee vendors' business continuity capabilities, ensuring alignment with the company's requirements.

  • Conduct business impact analyses across business units and processes to ensure highest business continuity risks are addressed and captured in plans and are appropriately tested.

  • Partner with first lines to ensure business continuity testing/disaster recovery testing occurs, including simulated scenarios to test plans, identify vulnerabilities, and ensure preparedness for effective responses

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize critical processes, vendors, and resources for continuity planning and incident response

  • Conduct training and awareness programs to prepare employees for responding to business disruptions and incidents

  • Lead BCM Committee meetings with stakeholders and provide overview of BCM Risk.

  • Support Internal Audits and Exams.

  • Lead enterprise storm prep calls and execute BCM notifications to the company as appropriate

PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING :

This position requires the ability to work independently and provide sound discretion and judgment. There will be a significant amount of collaboration with other areas which will require strong organizational skills. Also, a high level of accuracy and detail is needed as responsibilities are visible to senior management, the board of directors, and regulators. Problem solving, solution identification, strategic risk planning and analysis, and risk escalation are key components of the role.

Education and Experience

  • At least 3 years of applicable experience

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Operational Risk experience

  • Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery experience

Skills/Knowledge

  • Self-motivated and the ability to work and learn independently

  • Responsible for reaching out to business units and other risk areas as directed to ensure timeliness and accuracy of assessments.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to apply risk management concepts to a business setting is preferred

  • Ability to function in a professional capacity and provide frequent written and verbal communications and have the capacity to make decisions based on sound analysis.

  • Knowledge/foundation of bank’s operations and risk management programs preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Knowledge of Archer or other GRC experience preferred

  • Risk, Audit, Information Security, or Business Continuity Certifications (i.e. CIA, CRCM, CISA, BCCP/BCCS/BCCE, CBCP, CBCI)
