Job Summary

Provides oversight and leadership direction to the Property Staff Adjusters and Independent Adjusters within all MAPFRE Insurance locations network of policy holders. Ensures Property losses are properly adjusted and handled in a timely, accurate, complete and efficient manner.

Supervises, adjusts, monitors, instructs and evaluates the performance of the Staff and Independent Property Adjusters. This is a multi-state position that will require developing a proficiency in interpreting, understanding and applying multiple policies and multi-jurisdictional claim handling requirements. Interprets applicable policies and endorsements and makes prompt and accurate technical decisions. Reviews and evaluate loss notices. Guides and direct subordinates. Reviews reserves and monitor work flows. Administers the Human Resources policies. Recommends systems and procedure changes and implement procedures. Trains staff, hold staff meetings, and supervise property losses assigned to staff and independent adjusters. Travel and field work may occur during both business and non-business hours, including weekdays and weekends. Frequent in person contact with Insured's, Public Adjusters, Contractors, Experts, and Attorneys is expected.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education: Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.

Knowledge: Complete understanding and knowledge of industry, practices, standards, and concepts within field of work and broad business segment. Solid knowledge of management practices.

Decision Making: Typically makes decisions that impact short-term results. Interprets and executes policies and guidelines set by higher level management. Determines how to meet schedules, allocating resources. Typically makes operational decisions independently. Recommends modifications to operating policies. Problems are generally diverse and may impact multiple units.

Supervision Received: Assignments are received in objective-oriented terms, and combine both strategic and tactical responsibilities. Work is reviewed for unit's overall adequacy in meeting organizational objectives.

Leadership: Monitors daily operations of a unit. Accomplishes tasks primarily through supervision of non-exempt and entry-level exempt employees. Supervision involves hire, fire, pay, appraise decisions - not a Lead or Coordinator. Provides direction primarily using established procedures and policies.

Problem Solving /Operations/Direct Work Involvement: Advises work unit regarding tasks, projects, and operations. Generally becomes involved in day-to-day operations only when required to resolve complex problems or meet deadlines.

Client Contacts: Frequent contacts with internal and external parties at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling project phases. Communication typically involves persuasion, and negotiation with middle management levels. May interface with senior management.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A minimum of five (5) years claims adjusting experience required or Associates Degree equivalent plus 9-11 years experience. Must possess the appropriate state adjuster licenses as required by statute and be able to travel

  • Insurance course work strongly preferred

  • Thorough understanding of ISO insurance policies relating to HO, BOP and CPP is required

  • Thorough knowledge of structural damages, repair assessments and replacement costs is essential

  • Demonstrated experience with claim works, lotus notes, V2, V 12, Microsoft word, internet navigation

  • Attendance at a nationally certified or company sponsored property program in personal dwelling and commercial damage estimating is preferred

  • Working extended hours and weekends are required during severe storm volume situations

  • Experience in performing audits and re-inspections and overall supervisory experience in coaching and monitoring independent adjusters in settling large structural loss damage claims

  • Must be fluent in current estimating software application

  • Extensive knowledge of building trades, unit costs, building practice, including knowledge of structural damages, repair assessments, and replacement costs is essential

  • This individual will assist the Manager in the hiring of Independent Adjusters
