The Department of Elementary & Secondary Education’s Statewide System of Support (SSoS), in the Center for District Support, is seeking an internto support the work of the Manager of Strategic Planning and Integration, who works closely with the Associate Commissioner of SSoS on projects that cut across the five teams that make up SSoS. This an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in learning about state policy and strategies to promote school and district improvement, with an explicit focus on racial equity. We are interested in finding the best fit candidate who is motivated to promote sustainable systems-level change that helps all children obtain an excellent education. The intern will take on responsibilities in_at least one_of the following areas, and isnotexpected to address all areas listed. The specific role of this intern is flexible and can be designed based on the strengths of the selected candidate. /Candidates should include a cover letter describing the specific area(s) of focus that interest them, as well as the skills they would bring to that work./
1. Strategic planning and integration: Support the Associate Commissioner’s implementation of his vision for SSoS by providing a range of supports for strategic planning, implementation, coordination and integration of key priorities across SSoS offices that results in SSoS meeting goals for performance and impact, with a particular focus on ensuring racial equity is at the forefront of all SSoS work. (70%)
Specific areas of focus: Leveraging SSoS Leadership Team to implement SSoS vision; Support design and implementation of all-SSoS Professional Development; Support for SSoS cross-office Working Groups
2. Outcomes and data-informed practice:Support a data- and evidence-informed culture across SSoS by furnishing meaningful data and information and developing processes for SSoS to make sense of data collectively and monitor and assess the impact of our collective work. As a result SSoS will be able to better adjust its resource allocation, program offerings, and targeted assistance efforts to ensure an equitable, inclusive, accessible education for all. (25%).
Specific areas of focus: Support SSoS goal-setting and progress monitoring; Develop and roll out a dashboard displaying school engagement with DESE projects; develop and roll out data tools displaying data from school monitoring site visits.
3. *Urban Superintendents Network: *Convene a network for the leaders of the state’s 25 highest-poverty districts, ensuring the network leverages the unique assets of the districts and provides support for their unique contexts and the challenges they face. (5%)
Specific areas of focus: Convene planning team consisting of representatives from DESE, district leadership, and the MA Association of School Superintendents. Manage all details for monthly convenings.

Experience leading racial equity projects and/or integrating racial equity into existing work
Able to simultaneously consider both the big picture and the details needed to implement it
Experience designing, implementing, and/or facilitating professional learning for adults
Experience using a wide range of data and evidence to inform projects, communicate priorities, and monitor impact
Experience in public K-12 schools or similar educational context
Experience managing external partnerships, and/or cross-office or cross-function teams
Knowledge and/or experience with tools and platforms that can enhance team collaboration, communication and efficiency
Hourly salary is based on education level and experience.
