State of Massachusetts Data Analyst/Reporting Specialist in Malden, Massachusetts

The student assessment office seeks an analyst to support its reporting and measurement duties. The successful candidate will possess the interest and the capacity to manage state-wide educational data datasets in conjunction with the state’s senior psychometrician and the chief analyst of the MCAS program. The position involves writing and applying rules for reporting as well as analyzing results and recommending policies that support better interpretation. Job Responsibilities: The selected candidate will: • Maintain and analyze large student-level and aggregate assessment databases in Massachusetts; • Conduct multiple studies annually that answer a variety of questions using testing data, employing descriptive and statistical analysis methods and techniques; • Conduct data visualization using Excel and other data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); • Increase efficiencies of data reporting over time; • Contribute to reports of state assessment results, ensuring appropriate interpretations of assessment results; • Perform quality control checks for all official assessment results including student-level data and reports; school, district, and state-level reports available through the Department’s education data warehouse and the Department’s public web site; • Respond to inquiries and requests from schools, researchers, and members of the public about state assessment policy, test administration, and test results. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills; Experience using data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); Skilled in using statistical software (SPSS preferred); Experience in conducting statistical analyses; Experience with data processing (programming, merging, aggregating etc.) and quality assurance with large data sets; Prior knowledge of educational assessment; Knowledge of Massachusetts public schools and ability to interact with people in the field, including school staff, parents, students, and researchers; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Strong experience using Microsoft Office Suite software, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Questions regarding this position or the application process should be directed to First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and at least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional educational experience in a specific or related content area, educational program/or service; a master’s degree or higher in a specific or related educational content area may be substituted for two years of the required experience -- 30 semester hours equals one year of experience for substitution purposes. Education toward a degree in a specific or related educational content area will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
