Preference is for position to be based onsite in Mansfield, MA or New Haven, CT but will consider US remote.
This position will report to the Medical Surgical (Med Surg) Assistant Controller and be an integral member of the Med Surg Controllers team. This position will support the monthly financial close and will also provide leadership and expertise for accounting and reporting matters, including, but not limited to: revenue recognition, customer rebate and chargeback programs, field actions, warranties, acquisitions, and internal controls, and adherence to Medtronic policies. This position will also support, advise, and influence business partners by building relationships at all levels within the finance organization.
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Lead various special projects which will include a variety of initiatives to ensure consistency and efficiency of activities within the Med Surg organization, while maintaining a high-quality account and control environment and ensuring compliance with all financial reporting accounting policies. Special projects can include acquisitions, divestitures, new policy roll-outs, revenue recognition for new customer offerings.
Participate in the monthly and quarterly financial statement close process, provide general ledger support, compilation of monthly/quarterly reports, account for certain complex accounting matters, including analysis, journal entries and reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts. This will require close partnership with the businesses in support of Annual Operating Plan, forecasts and monthly accounting requirements as well as tax and legal.
Perform analytical balance sheet and PL analysis on a monthly basis. This includes analyzing and preparing rollforward for select balance sheet accounts, such as bad debts reserve and reserve for rebates.
Represent the Med Surg Controllers team in working teams, such as the review of IC out of balance.
Assist in preparing quarterly disclosures for Medtronics Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, and Irish Reporting.
Support various management reviews by preparing schedules for the monthly Accounting Update deck and the quarterly corporte close deck.
Understand and apply technical accounting guidance to develop and implement appropriate accounting positions that can be clearly articulated to business partners and management.
Business partner with assigned functions, provide analytical and financial insight.
Support the Med Surg Finance Organization in technical system related questions (SAP, Spend, Hyperion CXF)
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors Degree with 7+ years of work experience in Finance and/or Accounting (Or Advanced Degree with 5+ years)
Nice to Have
BA/BS Degree in Accounting
Sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Exceptional performer with high degree of initiative and self-motivation
Demonstrated ability to manage to tight deadlines, along with flexibility to changing priorities
Strong oral and written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel PowerPoint) and with financial applications (SAP, Hyperion)
CPA, MBA in Finance or a Masters degree
Experience working in Audit function (external or internal)
Ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously while appropriately prioritizing
Demonstration of excellent judgment and decision making, including the ability to interact with and influence all levels of leadership and executive management.
