Galvion Mechanical Process Engineer II in Marlborough, Massachusetts

PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES
The Mechanical Process Engineer will support the manufacturing team. The role is dedicated to establishing and optimizing manufacturing processes, as well as quality for the production and assembly of military specification precision optical products. This is a hands-on role that creates engineering solutions for manufacturing coated optical products and works directly with the manufacturing team consisting of operators, technicians, and supply chain personnel.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People:
Fosters constructive and collaborative relationships with partners and suppliers
Participates in staff meetings and has effective communication with site personnel
Works closely with the customers and Quality staff in problem solving activities related to manufacturing
Works with R&D team to introduce new products into manufacturing
Provides technical support and expertise to the manufacturing team and QA staff
Process:
Creates and improves manufacturing and measurement processes for vapor deposition, machining, injection molding, and coating methods
Investigates and learns new equipment and methods required for new product introduction and efficiency
Develops work flows and work instructions for automated and manual assembly and manufacturing of precision optics
Contributes to the design and construction of testing equipment and methodologies
Implements quality test plans for precision optics products
Ownership of manufacturing procedures and methods in manufacturing
Assists in developing tooling and fixtures for use in manufacturing
Creates new and novel manufacturing processes
Monitor and improve performance and quality of products
Uses ERP system, as needed, for gathering manufacturing data
Uses CAD and other engineering software, as needed, to complete assigned work
Perform other duties as assigned
Performance:
Plans and executes corrective and preventive actions and implement solutions to improve manufacturing processes
Implements LEAN applications throughout the manufacturing process
Develops a strong knowledge of standards and specifications which relate to Focused Solution capabilities and products
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics or Mechanical Engineering
Experience in High Tech manufacturing
3+ years engineering experience with strong knowledge of automated processes
Experience with optical components and thin-film coatings and characterization a plus
Experience with LEAN Manufacturing Methodologies and its implementation a plus
Proficient in computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook)
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize in a highly dynamic environment
Fast learner, self-starter, must be able to work independently and as part of a team
A positive can-do, customer-oriented attitude is necessary
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Motivated and creative problem solver
Solidworks experience preferred
ERP experience preferred
PLC Logic Understanding
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office base and manufacturing environment
Some travel, as required, between Galvion and supplier facilities
