The NPI Engineer will report to the Senior Director, Process Engineering. The NPI Engineer’s primary responsibility will be to provide technical expertise to facilitate development and effective release of thermal barrier products from transfer phase to full production into the Monterrey, Mexico facilities. Strong technical and program/project management skills are required to ensure that technical progress and innovation progress at a pace sufficient to satisfy customer requirements in a timely fashion.

The NPI Engineer must have the ability to manage multiple technology / product transfer priorities simultaneously. The NPI Engineer will partner with other NPI Engineers, Site Quality, Operational Excellence, Site Engineering / Manufacturing staffs, EH&S, and Supply Chain to ensure that customers’ requirements are effectively addressed in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the transfer of new manufacturing processes, products, and technologies into Monterrey by acting as liaison between ATBC NPI engineering and Monterrey engineering / manufacturing groups.

  • Provide technical input to cross-functional teams throughout the thermal barrier development and design process from prototyping through commercialization.

  • Support the release of new technologies and new products at the manufacturing facility by helping lead scale up and knowledge transfer activities.

  • Work collaboratively with Monterrey engineering / manufacturing staff to track / improve all product KPI’s related to new business.

  • Support NPI and Automation teams in troubleshooting, problem-solving and design improvements of tools, jigs, fixtures, and equipment as needed in the release of new tooling or machine technology.

  • Collaborate with NPI Engineers to understand functional challenges of the customer’s application to enable development of solutions that meet the customers’ needs while adhering to internal Aspen production capabilities.

  • Evaluate customer driven engineering design change requests for manufacturability and economic impacts. Propose solutions in response to customer requests and propose changes that maintain or improve Aspen’s economics while meeting customer defined design requirements.

  • Propose and implement product BOM, work routing and other changes that support day to day operations while maintaining customer requirements and best practices.

  • Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.

  • Prepare cost-benefit analyses for engineering changes from present to new and improved processes, automation or materials and ensure project plans are effective, within budget and timely.

  • Personally adhere to and monitor compliance with all safety procedures, policies, and maintain good housekeeping standards of team members.

  • Rely on data collection and analysis, experience, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years applied engineering experience preferably in product development, packaging, converting or chemical manufacturing.

  • Ability to communicate fluently with peers in both English and Spanish

  • Ability and willingness to lead, manage and do work.

  • Emotional Intelligence and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

  • Ability to handle complex matters across multiple initiatives.

  • Clear and concise communication skills, including verbal, written, presentation and negotiation.

  • Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

  • Basic understanding of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 is required.

  • Willingness to travel.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
