Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer who will design and optimize optical and opto-mechanical systems for advanced medical devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Design and test opto-mechanical systems for new and existing medical devices, ensuring alignment with project goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and optimize fiber optic delivery systems and alignment fixtures to enhance system performance and reliability.

  • Conduct rigorous performance measurements on laser systems, including beam profile, energy stability, pulse width, wavelength, and beam propagation.

  • Perform life testing on opto-mechanical systems and sub-assemblies to validate durability and reliability.

  • Provide technical feedback on opto-mechanical designs based on testing results and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvements.

  • Support the development of new subsystems for laser-based medical devices, including writing assembly procedures and assisting in pilot builds.

  • Contribute to engineering change processes by identifying design enhancements and resolving issues to improve product performance.

  • Participate in design reviews, offering critical insights and recommendations related to opto-mechanical assemblies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics or related field with hands-on research experience involving laser-based light sources (Ph.D. is preferred).

  • 8+ years of experience in opto-mechanical engineering within a medical device environment, with a strong background in product development and hardware systems.

  • Proficiency in opto-mechanical and laser systems; familiarity with ZEMAX is advantageous.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of resolving complex technical challenges.

  • Project management skills are highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with FDA regulations and standards for Class II medical devices, ensuring compliance with internal quality requirements.
