Kelly Services Technical Associate, R&D Lab in Marlborough, Massachusetts

Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a Technical Associate – R&D Lab for a Long Term Contract opportunity Onsite in Marlborough, MA.

Job Opportunity Description:

This role is suited for individuals with experience in lab operations and ideally in clean room environments performing synthesis, formulation, thermal analysis, coating, lamination, and material testing. This position is on a team comprising scientists and engineers developing new material product formulations, new processing methods, and device makers fabricating new devices.

This candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to support global project teams to deliver against project goals and timelines. Technical direction will come from experienced project leaders and technical leaders within ACP, who will assist as needed with prioritization, planning, and communication of project deliverables. This role will require hands-on execution of lab and clean room processing of material formulations, including coating, cure, metrology and analysis of wafer-level and panel-level material processing. Work to formulate new materials for testing, thermal analysis and sampling will also be required. These activities will support process window development, performance optimization, integration troubleshooting, and formulation development across multiple steps of semiconductor fabrication. An ideal candidate will also have introductory organic synthesis skills to support material development.

This role will demand strong interpersonal relationships with other team members and requires good communication and analytical processing of experimental data. The successful candidate will drive evaluation and characterization aspects of critical projects and assist in data analysis and interpretation/presentation of key results, internally.

Responsibilities:

  • Associate investigator focusing on panel and wafer-level processing techniques, comfortable with exploring advanced/non-standard methods for unique applications

  • Adept at hands-on lab work, creative thinking, problem solving in a unique and fast-paced laboratory environment

  • Assume responsibility for execution of project workflows, such as laminations, coatings, lithography and cure techniques, as well as thermal and mechanical analysis.

  • Support additional prototyping and optimization development initiatives relevant to strategic goals as they arrive.

  • Create, maintain, and leverage close relationships with internal analytical collaborators to drive characterization and performance data collection and analysis.

  • Clearly and concisely communicate research to team members of varying technical backgrounds

  • Demonstrate ability to work well on cross-functional and global teams with personnel at multiple levels, including Asia-based customers and commercial points of contact.

  • Maintain appropriate focus on personal and process safety, product integrity, and environmental stewardship

Skills/Capabilities:

  • B.S. or Associate degree in a technical or scientific field with industrial lab experience with clean room + wafer level processing methods & tools.

  • 1-2 years hands-on industrial experience in semiconductor fab or similar environment

  • Familiarity with material characterization, wafer-level metrology and/or thin film analysis

  • Experience with thermal and mechanical analysis tools and techniques

  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven team player

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • English fluency

Strongly preferred

  • Expertise with a diverse range of analytical equipment:

  • Chemical, mechanical, thermal analysis

  • Basic materials characterization

  • Inspection equipment (confocal microscopes, scanning electron microscopes)

  • Curiosity and excitement to learn beyond assignments, excellent problem-solving skills in a team environment

  • Hands on organic synthesis experience to support materials development

  • Experience with applications testing for quality control and reliability testing for material process qualification and QC release

  • Hands-on experience in and enthusiasm for wafer-level or panel-level material formulation for the most demanding customers in the world.

Qualifications:

  • Education:B.S. or associates degree in chemistry, physics, engineering or materials science

  • Previous cross-functional or global project experience in semiconductors is desirable

Job Level Description:

Performs theoretical and experimental scientific and technological investigation directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge. May conduct analytical, experimental, investigative and other fact-finding work to support principal scientific research. Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses. Identifies, assesses and develops new scientific concepts/technologies in basic or applied research with significant business impact. Documents research leading to patent disclosure or technical and/or scientific advancement.

Technical professional with high competency in a degreed technology area or application space, completing experiments, technical operations or information analysis under moderate supervision.

• Builds working knowledge in a technology area or application space and develops capability as a technical subject matter expert.

•Builds understanding of the company’s businesses and develops deeper knowledge around one BU’s business, including applicable financial metrics.

• Takes direction from technical managers and project leaders; activities impact own work and select other team members.

• May lead technical sub-teams and help to define the scope of the larger project.

• May provide informal guidance to other research professionals and technicians; understands how own work contributes to the team’s success.

• Looks for meaningful hypotheses to test that are at the heart of a problem.

• Interprets and analyzes results, making suggestions on path forward; work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgement, completeness and accuracy.

•Solves well-defined problems with coaching.
