Engineering Subject Matter Expert

If you seek a high profile and challenging position supporting US Navy Submarine Shipbuilding program offices, Serco North America is seeking motivated individuals to join our Maritime Engineering, Technology, and Sustainment Business Unit located near the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

This position supports the COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Class Shipbuilding Program Offices as well as the Chief Engineer of the Navy (SEA 05) at Naval Sea Systems Command. In this role, you will:

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise in the areas of materials, welding, and non-destructive testing for the Navy’s submarine shipbuilding programs.

  • Review shipbuilder proposals for root cause determination process for Working Groups and provide recommendations to SEA 05P2.

  • Actively participate in the NAVSEA NDT Working Group, supporting requirement development for supplier and shipbuilder-initiated inspections and re-inspection.

  • Review specifications and other information regarding vendor oversight and a centralized approach for recovering from inspection problems.

  • Review audit findings to determine whether enhanced oversight is appropriate.

  • Support development of a central certification system similar to the public shipyards and private nuclear shipyards.

  • Participated in periodic meetings involving all stakeholders, including Electric Boat, Newport News Shipbuilding, and NAVSEA, providing technical justification for different issues, including recommendations to acceptance.

  • Support the NDT Technical Warrant Holder on multiple issues including Phased Array Ultrasonics (PAUT) and contractor sub vendor oversight.

  • Review Change Notices (CN) providing technical justification for acceptance or rejection.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have an active or current DoD Final Secret Clearance.

  • Bachelor's level degree in Materials or Materials Engineering

  • Min of 10 yrs. experience with NAVSEA Shipbuilding,

  • Min of 15 yrs. Navy experience working with:

  • Material Sciences

  • Welding / Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • 10 years of ACAT ID Acquisition Programs.

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

  • A focus on outstanding customer support
