State of Massachusetts Supv Identification Agent in Maynard, Massachusetts

Maintains and operates the fingerprint supported criminal history by use of Automated Fingerprint Identification System other related systems for the Department of State Police. Determines whether or not fingerprint and other materials meets FBI standards. Processes ten-print cards, dispositions and related materials and enters the information, compares them with existing records for identification, records data properly for agency files. Resolves all conflicts that may occur following the entry of data into the system. Checks daily entries made into the AFIS Computer and other related criminal history systems. Purges and updates extraneous information. Create related statistical reports and maintain files in accordance to procedure. Provides court testimony on fingerprints, testifies as a witness and record keeper. Assists in the training of personnel in the entry and retrieval of cases into the system from the Department of State Police and outside agencies. Retrieves criminal records in response to requests for information from law enforcement officials. Analyzes criminal records, identification data, or other data to judge the adequacy of the materials in determining crimes and crime trends. Determines the correct response to requests for information from local police officials and staff. Responsible for database maintenance; weekly attendance; ordering and maintaining office supplies; typing material; keeping various records and files; and coding names for files. Speaks before various groups as a representative of the agency, draws up specifications for new equipment, supplies or services. Perform related duties as requested. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. * Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part- time, experience in fingerprint classification and identification. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: None. ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EDUCATION PREFERRED AT HIRE: Knowledge of the standard methods used in fingerprint classification and identification. Experience conducting latent print comparisons. Experience in proper application of the ACE-V scientific methodology. Knowledge of the terminology used in police work. Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment, materials, and supplies used in fingerprint classification and identification. Skill in operating office equipment such as teletype, facsimile transmitting equipment, etc. Skill in operating fingerprint equipment. Ability to conduct training or instruction. Ability to compile statistics. Ability to prepare statistical reports. Ability to give written instructions in a precise, understandable manner. Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates' training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action. Ability to plan, assign and coordinate the activities of others. Ability to prepare and use charts, graphs, and tables. Ability to communicate effectively in written expression. Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, etc. Ability to understand and apply the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
