State of Massachusetts Educational Specialist (D) - Administrator of Career & Technical Education in Milford, Massachusetts

Duties: The mission of the Education Division is to prepare offenders for successful reentry by providing a comprehensive academic, career and technical education program continuum which is responsive to the individual risk and need of each offender. The Administrator of Career and Technical Education will assist the director and deputy director with overseeing all career and technical education programming that is offered in all state correctional facilities by Education Division staff, vendors, and external partners. The Administrator of Career and Technical Education will assist the deputy director and all head teachers with the supervision of all career and technical education instructors. The Administrator of Career and Technical Education will supportsuccessful reentry by ensuring high quality career and technical educationalprogramming and alignmentto current evidenced-based standards and practices. The Administrator of Career and Technical Educationwillserveasthecareer and technical educationleaderforthetabletprogram.Thisworkwillconsistoftheoversightof,anddevelopmentof, coursesonthelearningmanagementsystem as well as certifications and training programs offered through this vehicle.TheAdministrator of Career and Technical Educationwillworkwiththeleadership teamtoidentify data performance measures for the division and most specifically for career and technical education programs. The Administrator of Career and Technical Educationwillalsooverseethedivision’sProfessionalDevelopmentPlanas it relates to the work of staff focused on career and technical educationandworkwiththedirector,deputydirector, and all head teachers, and other mangers to ensure that the division’s professional development activitiesmeetdivisionanddepartmentgoalsaswellasthe needsofourinstructionalstaff.Additionalresponsibilitiesofthepositioninclude overseeingstaffandprojectspertainingtocurriculumdevelopment,instructionalstrategies,andformativeandsummativeassessments. The Administrator of Career and Technical Education will oversee the roll out and the educational implementation of all instructional technology for career and technical education programs while collaborating with the manager of instructional technology.The Administrator of Career and Technical Education will assist the director and deputy directorwithdirectingstaff onDOCpolicies and procedures. The Administrator of Career and Technical Education will work in collaboration withothers within the DOC to identify grant opportunities as well as the completion of all grant applications that the department decides to make application for. The Administrator of Career and Technical Education will also be responsible for evaluating new programs and writing proposals advocating for the implementation of new, innovative programs. TheAdministrator of Career and Technical Educationwillreceivegeneraldirectionfromthedirector and deputydirectortoassistinthe achievementof agency goals and priorities. Performs other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications: Current licensure from the DESE in vocational education teaching and/or administration. Ten (10) years of experience in teaching and/or administration that includes at least five (5) years of career and technical education classroom teaching.Five (5) years of experience in educational leadership. Experience with curriculum development, adherence to DESE policies, and use of formative and summative assessments to inform instructional practices. Experience with school improvement planning. Experience with supervision and evaluation based on the current Massachusetts standards for educator evaluation. Comments: This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. The DOC urges bilingual applicants to apply. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in teaching, educational administration, educational counseling or educational guidance, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the required substitutions below. I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in education or special education may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.* II. A Graduate degree with a major in education, special education, administration or educational counseling may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required experience.* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of three years of the required experience.
