State of Massachusetts Industrial Instructor II - General Mechanic – Central Transportation Unit in Milford, Massachusetts
Duties: Maintain records and schedules. Maintain records of all parts purchased. Maintain records of all work performed. Perform and/or schedule towing assignments. Maintain tool control in compliance with Department of Correction Policy. Supervise incarcerated individuals in the performance of vehicle maintenance. Order and receive automotive parts. Diagnose and repair Department of Correction vehicles. Proper use of hazardous materials to include disposal of used hazardous waste. Must have experience with gas and diesel engine maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned. * * SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION, DRUG SCREENING, OSHA RESPIRATOR MEDICAL EVALUATION AND BACKGROUND AND MUST ATTEND A FOUR (4) WEEK RECRUIT ACADEMY Preferred Qualifications: Two years of automotive mechanics, hands on experience in repairing vehicles, training or instructing work, the major duties of which involved automotive repair Capable of maintaining accurate records and schedules. Must read and write English correctly and communicate clearly. Ability to diagnose and repair motor vehicles. Knowledge of towing, wrecker and ramp truck operations. ASE certified. Maintain mechanical capability and cleanliness of Transportation Security Vehicles. Must have a good driving record. Comments: This is a Civil Service position. Candidate must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for this title and score must be reached in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in industrial arts work, the major duties of which involved training or instructing, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in industrial arts may be substituted for the required experience.* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
