The Separations Research group is a multi-disciplinary research organization developing micro-scale analytical systems. We are seeking a candidate to support scientists and engineers working to develop new technologies which will be used to create next generation scientific instrumentation.
Brainstorm solutions alongside engineers and scientists
Conceptualize, design, assemble, and test electro/mechanical prototypes to support technology development from concept through early development
Perform mechanical, fluid, thermal, and systems analyses to support new and existing designs
Responsible for detailed design and mechanical layout of components, subassemblies, and top level instruments
Conduct analysis and test of components, subassemblies, and instruments to verify design and specification goals
Lead in prototype build and early development activities.
Work independently or as part of a cross-functional team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with superiors, peers, suppliers and customers
Provide technical mentoring to mid and junior level Engineers
Prepare, drive and present prototype designs and drawing reviews
BS in Mechanical Engineering required, MSME is preferred
Minimum of 10 years industry experience in design and analysis of precision mechanical/electromechanical assemblies from early prototypes to high volume production
Proficiency designing precision mechanical components and assemblies taking into consideration design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost
Proficiency using 3D parametric modeling software (preferably Solidworks or UGNX)
Proficiency conducting Finite Element Analysis (CFD, Fluent, and experience with ANSYS considered a plus)
Computer programming skills (Labview, C++, Python) preferred
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, solid and fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14, 5M-1994 as well as industry drafting standards
Fluency in English - written and spoken
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with superiors, peers, suppliers and customers
