Waters Senior Principal Cloud Architect in Milford, Massachusetts

Waters is currently seeking a Cloud Architect to join our Infrastructure Engineering team. In this role you will lead the design and implementation of new, innovative, and high-profile enterprise class processes and services that align with our overall business goals. She / He will interface with business colleagues, IT team members, and external resources to gather requirements and implement the next generation of cloud capabilities including the enablement of SaaS offerings to customers.

A successful candidate will have an extensive understanding and passion for cloud technologies with proven experience around delivery and support of ‘aaS’ applications. A self-starter attitude, excellent communication, and dedication to innovative technologies are critical to this role.


  • Lead the development of the Waters Cloud strategy and roadmap in partnership with the Product development organization and key stakeholders. Ensure its integration with the broader enterprise strategic plans.

  • Collaborate with development teams and product owners to define cloud service and deployment requirements

  • Define architectural standards and technologies for enabling Waters’ SaaS solutions for public cloud delivery.

  • Perform hands-on activities involved in creating cloud infrastructure components, migrating from, or integrating with on-premises services, and developing self-service tooling and metrics to empower delivery teams’ autonomy.

  • Collaborate with product and software development teams to define Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Objectives (SLOs), and Indicators (SLIs).

  • Drive development and automation of emergency recovery procedures, deployment schedules, post-maintenance validation. Provision, configure, and maintain AWS resources using automated processes.

  • Support requests from Waters leadership and product management to provide estimates and strategies for Cloud expansion and integration of additional offerings based on business roadmaps.

  • Responsible for training and mentoring resources to build the best-in-class cloud operations team and processes.

  • Actively participate in Cloud architecture and security governance and help drive process improvements.

  • Maintain and advance deep technical skills and knowledge, keeping up to date with market trends and competitive insights, and share within the technical community.

  • Design and implement solutions to monitor systems performance and security posture through AWS and third-party tools

  • Actively and continually optimize AWS/cloud resources to ensure lowest cost while ensuring security, scalability, and high availability

Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or another related field is preferred.

  • At least ten years of professional experience performing Cloud solution design and engineering, preferably at the architecture level for an organization that provides SaaS product offerings to customers

  • Strong track record of implementing Cloud services in a global distributed environment.

  • Experience providing technical leadership and architectural guidance to Software Development and Operations teams.

  • Possess a systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive

  • Practical experience managing architecture standards and change governance

  • Experience designing to achieve requirements for compliance, security and privacy (SOC1/2, ISO27001, GDPR, etc.)

  • Results oriented, innovative, proactive with an ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Designing and supporting highly available and fault-tolerant enterprise software deployments

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with globally distributed teams.

  • Configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, and application schedulers such as Kubernetes, Nomad, Docker

  • Experience in traditional practices such as IT Service Management, Agile, and DevOps

  • Certifications: ITIL, DevOps, AWS, DevOps, Azure, Agile, PMP
