Milford Regional Medical Center Substance Abuse Counselor/Recovery Coach in Milford, Massachusetts

Saturday & Sunday 9 am - 5:30 PM

Statement of Purpose: The Substance Abuse Counselor/Recovery Coach (SAC/RC) will work under the direction of the Manager of Behavioral Health (LICSW). The SAC/RC will function as part of the Substance Abuse team to provide substance abuse education and assist the patient in the effective navigation of community substance abuse resources. The SAC/RC is expected to be in the community at minimum 50% of the time, working with patients to provide support in navigation. The SAC/RC is responsible for utilizing communication skills to seek information as necessary from providers, community mental health & substance abuse organizations, and families to best serve our patients, which will enable the SAC/RC to identify problems related to the total well-being of the patient. The SAC/RC must have knowledge of community substance abuse resources, addictions treatment, and the ability to work with state agencies such as DMH and DCF to ensure favorable patient dispositions. The ability to work efficiently, have great patient interaction skills, and a sense of urgency are a must. The SAC/RC will also work under the BH Manager (LICSW) to ensure appropriate billing practices are met.

Qualifications:

Education: Associates degree preferred or High School /GED and one additional year experience working with the substance use population. Written and oral fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish preferred.

Certification/License: Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) certification preferred. If not present, must complete certification within 2 years of hire

Community Health Worker Certification preferred.

Experience: 1 plus years’ experience working in substance abuse arena Working knowledge of community substance abuse & mental health care and an understanding of ESPs Knowledge of addiction treatment resources Bilingual or trilingual (Portuguese and/or Spanish) preferred Demonstrated knowledge of working with various state agencies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island Able to communicate in a concise, calm manner High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
