South Middlesex Opportunity Council Residential Relief Staff in Millbury, Massachusetts

SUMMARY

Ensure the safety and security of our 24x7 residential recovery program(s) and it's participants by providing coverage when regular staff is out. This position is on-call and does not have regular shifts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that all program clients adhere to program rules and regulations.

  • Ensure the safety and security of the residence and the clients during assigned shift.

  • Maintain appropriate logs and files for each shift.

  • Read log entries at the beginning of each shift and communicate information as appropriate at the end of each shift.

  • Monitor client requirements such as chores, curfew, etc.

  • Respond calmly and effectively to all emergencies and report information to appropriate supervisor.

  • Offer support to clients.

  • Treat each client with dignity and respect,

  • Establish appropriate boundaries with clients.

  • Some programs may require some janitorial tasks.

  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.

  • Attend & participate in team meetings and supervision as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures.

  • Trained in medication policy and procedure.

  • All staff required to write contact note on clients for any time spent with clients for case manager to follow up with.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum HS diploma or GED

  • Sensitivity to low-income families of diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to work independently

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Accuracy in completing log books and paperwork

  • Required to complete and pass the SMOC Residential Relief Staff Curriculum prior to being placed in this role

  • Understanding the disease concept of addiction and knowledge of the 12 step programs and harm reduction model helpful.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive program van.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

  • Directly reports to designated Program Manager.

  • Indirectly reports to designated Program Director or Clinical Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs in a residential building

  • Must be able to react calmly in an emergency.

  • Some shifts may require the ability to be awake during the night.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Shifts, hours and locations may vary. An ongoing inability to cover shifts may result in removal from the relief staff pool. As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Residential Relief Staff will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
