NURSING CLINICAL LEADER

Job Description:

Beth Israel Deaconess Milton is seeking a Nursing Clinical Leader.

This position is (3) 12 hour shifts. 72 hours per pay period, every other weekend requirement holiday rotation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of the clinical lead focus primarily on ED nursing operations, nursing staff education and quality improvement efforts.

The leadership responsibilities include:

· Participation in decision making around ED nursing operations as a member of the ED Nursing Leadership team.

· Building and maintaining relationships with ED nursing staff that sets best practice standards and guides the provision of excellent patient care.

· Resolves conflicts or problems that may develop or refers to administrative officer on duty as appropriate.

· Clinical Lead for Education Associated duties that this person is responsible for includes but is not limited to:

o Provides support and mentorship to clinical nursing staff by:

  • serving as a preceptor to new clinical staff

  • collaborating with the ED Nurse Manager to identify and support others in serving as preceptors to new clinical staff

  • delivering unit specific education at the direction of the ED Nurse Manager and in collaboration with the Clinical Lead for Quality

o Assists the ED Nurse Manager in tracking and maintaining clinical competencies

o Collaborates with Professional Development in the coordination and development of centralized educational offerings that would benefit ED nursing staff

· Clinical Lead for Quality Associated duties that this person is responsible for includes but is not limited to:

o Assists the ED Nurse Manager in improving or maintaining department quality measures.

  • completing unit based audits & QI reviews

  • leading unit-based quality improvement efforts at the direction of the ED Nurse Manager and in support of regulatory preparedness

o Assists the ED Nurse Manager in the follow up and resolution to Quality events

  • Gathering information and performing chart audits

  • Ad Hoc member of Stroke Committee & Sepsis Committee- as invited or requested by the committee chair person

o Coordinating with the Clinical Lead for Education to enhance and support efforts around identifying educational needs of clinical staff

The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. A summary list of tasks and procedures that may cause exposure to blood and body fluids is listed in the attached Physical Abilities Job Description. Also identified is the protective gear that is available.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

· BSN

· Current Massachusetts RN License

· BLS/ ACLS through American Heart Association

· PALS within 6 months of hire

· 3 Years of ED or associated experience

Preferred

· Prior charge RN experience strongly preferred
