This position is 24 hours per week (two 12-hour shifts), night shifts. Weekend and holiday rotation required.

The CCU/ICU is a dynamic, fast-paced 8-bed unit. Staffed by an inter-disciplinary team dedicated to providing a wide range of critical care services to individuals requiring a high level of care, such as mechanical ventilation, central line placement, non-invasive ventilation such as BiPaP, and titration. Our team services a variety of patient populations including the elderly, post-ops, COVID-positive individuals, and patients who transition to comfort measures. POSITION FUNCTION:

Responsible for the total nursing care of patients within assigned critical care area according to established standards and practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of the ICU Nurse Manager, or designee, with-in the framework of the RN license, participates in the following activities:

Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments. Responsible for systematically assessing the health care needs of individuals or groups and for the formulation of a care plan, its implementation and evaluation.

Demonstrates the ability for decision making by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience in caring for patients

Coordinates the care of patients and directs assistive personnel in order to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely, patient-centered care. Demonstrates awareness of environmental forces on health care of patients and their families. Demonstrates the ability to identify resources necessary to implement the plan of care.

Works in a collegial and collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families. Develops relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect. Communicates effectively in the exchange of information. Demonstrate the ability to act as a patient advocate.

Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit based competencies. Identifies needs for continued growth and development in conjunction with the unit based educator or clinical nurse specialist. Participates in activities that contribute to professional development and takes part in quality improvement activities.

Assists in administering highly specialized therapy with complex technological equipment and demonstrates a high degree of autonomy in performing immediate, accurate patient assessments and appropriate nursing interventions.

Assesses, plans and implements nursing care of the patient recovering from moderate sedation and anesthesia, utilizing special skills, knowledge and judgment in observing, reporting and responding to symptoms and condition of patients and adheres to established philosophy, policies and procedures.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED COMPONENTS:

Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.

Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.

May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.

The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. A summary list of tasks and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

Equivalent to a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, current licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

1 year of acute care nursing experience. ICU experience preferred.

American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications
