Description

We are working with a specialized, prominent, private college in Newton looking for an Assistant Controller to join their team. This reports to a Director of Accounting and manages a Senior Accountant and works on a sizeable team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in overall financial operations and financial management of the institution, which includes budgeting, fiscal operations, and financial reporting.

• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations relevant to financial reports and audits; prepare audit work papers and schedules for external auditors.

• Prepare various financial reports and perform financial analysis as required.

• Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to ensure sound fiscal management.

• Oversee the work of assigned staff, provide training and coaching to improve performance and productivity.

• Utilize and manage the institution's financial system, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

• Work collaboratively with other departments to resolve financial related issues and inquiries.

• File 990

• Handle general accounting including operational accounting, grants, month end, g/l

  Requirements

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting or Finance/relevant field

• 6+ years of accounting experience with experience in nonprofit or higher ed
