This is a 30 hour per week role; Monday - Friday. Hours are: 11:00am - 5:00pm.

Under supervision of Director and Resource Nurse, coordinates booking of all surgeries for Operating Room. Works with surgeons’ offices to find optimal surgical times. Communicates to appropriate staff in department and other hospital departments regarding details of procedures. In collaboration with the resource nurse, responsible for accurate and timely submission of payroll for department.

Job Description:

  1. Responsible for booking all surgical cases to maximize the effectiveness of the four surgical suites.

  2. Interact with surgeon offices in finding optimal surgical times to maintain a good working relationship between offices and OR.

  3. In charge of notifying admitting, and preadmission testing of any OR cases, changes and also confirming the aforementioned with the surgical offices.

  4. Acts as resource for inpatient units and other clinics who may need assistance in booking a surgical and other Cardioversions & Bronchoscopy appointments.

  5. Report trends in surgical block usage to administration in order to utilize blocks effectively. Based on these trends, responsible for updating/changing blocks to accommodate more active or new surgeons at BIDN.

  6. Responsible for accurate entry of staff schedule changes in OneStaff and MyTime as needed daily/weekly.

  7. Responsible for complete and accurate payroll report each week by the assigned deadline. Collaborates with the clinical resource nurse to ensure accurate time keeping and reporting 8. Education of office staff regarding surgical scheduling procedures. Update offices on new forms, and changes in booking procedures

  8. Enter all pertinent information for operating room cases into data base (i.e. time, personnel).

  9. Accountable for entering all operating room charges. This includes pricing of some implants and recording all other charges related to the case. This also produces the available inventory for central supply

  10. Troubleshoot problems with charges, i.e. incorrect pricing, items not available in the system, new vendors, in conjunction with the materials coordinator in the OR and the IT analyst as needed

  11. Produce daily schedules for distribution throughout the department and sends email schedules to appropriate departments throughout the hospital

Book preadmission testing appointments. Determine the correct appointment type, based on medical and age criteria. Works closely with the PAT nursing staff to ensure accuracy in scheduling

  1. Serve as liaison to surgical offices and preadmission nurses for a variety of situations, including missed appointments, and additional medical information needed.

  2. Educate surgeon’s office personnel in the types of medical information needed for surgery. Review medical history of patients with PAT RNs and office staff to determine if any additional testing, etc is needed.

  3. Assist OR, Preoperative and PACU nurses on an as needed basis with entering or retrieving lab results, answering phones, bringing/discharging patients, reporting equipment problems and any other issues that arise.

  4. Order any necessary stationary supplies for the Pre-op, PACU, OR and PAT areas.

  5. Plays an active role in staff meetings, and provides valuable input to the nursing staff when information is recorded in the patient record.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent related experience required.

  • Must be proficient and skilled in computer data entry

  • Must be proficient with scheduling multiple surgical procedures for many physicians for a busy OR and PAT

  • Knowledge of and proficient with use of Picis OR Manager software preferred

  • Proficient with Meditech preferred
