Performs a wide range of duties to insure the safety and security of the Hospital and its patients, visitors, physicians, employees, and others, as well as the property of same, ensuring that all responsibilities are performed in strict accordance with Hospital and/or Departmental Policies at all times.

One year of Security, Military or comparable experience , and being enrolled in a Criminal Justice program preferred.

As part of the AJH Security Team you will:

  • Patrol assigned areas of the hospital and its grounds

  • Check for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress/egress and unauthorized persons.

  • Prepare Daily Activity Log and reports

  • Respond to all codes and alarms

  • Complete an extensive de-escalation, defensive control options training

  • Coordinate with local police, fire and emergency personnel

  • Respond to emergency calls including slips and falls in the facility or on the campus grounds

  • Provide assistance to patients, visitors, and colleagues with vehicle problems

  • Monitors and witnesses the removal of patient valuables from the admitting safe when requested with documentation on Daily Reports as well as in the valuables log.

  • Performs all security-related duties associated with the Hospital Internal Emergency Management Manual at all times.

  • Ensures that pertinent information is passed to the relief Officer at change of shift.

  • Maintains a smoke-free zone at areas designated no smoking by the facility, and gives direction to an acceptable area for smoking.

  • Maintains post one (security office) when assigned, views CCTV observation equipment, assumes all switchboard duties.

  • Participates in educational activities that meet one’s educational needs as approved by the Security Manager.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Hospital’s Fire Regulations and Disaster Procedures.

Qualifications, Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Graduate or enrollee in a Criminal Justice program preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Current valid driver’s license required. Maintains American Heart Association Heart Saver certification.

Skills, Knowledge and abilities: Observant, paying close attention to detail; Ability to remain calm in difficult situations; Adaptable to sometimes rapidly changing situations; Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across diverse cultures and at various social and educational levels. Basic computer data entry skills. In the absence of a particular skill, colleague must have the ability to be trained to a level of proficiency.
