UNIT SUPPORT AIDE

Job Description:

The Unit Support Aide is an active participant of the health care team who is responsible for a variety of activities related to the transportation of patients, equipment and supplies. Performs interdepartmental errands and other related duties as needed within the Materials Management Department.

Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas via wheelchair, stretcher and Patient bed. This includes the transport of patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment. Assists clinical staff with the transferring of patients to/from beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs safely.

Collects specimens, orders, requisitions and equipment and deliver items to appropriate destination.

Maintains equipment and report malfunctions immediately to the appropriate person.

Monitors surrounding environment for unsafe situations and equipment and reports issues to the appropriate person.

Prioritizes duties by demonstrating self-motivation, flexibility, and cooperation with changes in work volume, emergencies and staffing needs.

Works closely with the clinical staff to assure positive patient outcomes.

Maintains strict patient confidentiality

Monitors usage of supplies for precaution carts on daily basis and restocks to maintain accurate par levels for all supplies.

Transports patients for admission, testing, transfers and discharges.

Retrieves equipment, delivers and maintenances stretchers, wheelchairs, infusion pumps and precaution carts.

Delivers medications from the pharmacy as routinely scheduled.

Performs the duties of a storeroom clerk as needed: answering phones, delivering supplies, processing incoming stock and coverage for after business hours to include holidays.

Brings environmental safety concerns to attention of appropriate individuals.

Required Skills

Communication:

Must possess verbal and written skills to communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse group of professional and non-professional members of the health care team, patients and family/significant others.

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
