Good Shepherd Community Care, one of the most trusted health care organizations in Greater Boston, is offering the unique opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to join our team as the first Director of Development in our organization’s 40-year history. 

Founded as Hospice of the Good Shepherd in 1978, we are the original Massachusetts hospice. After decades of caring for our community, we continue to remain an independent, not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization. Through the years our services have expanded to include palliative care, community and professional education, and grief support. In addition, we are part of the Massachusetts Pediatric Palliative Care Network. 

Job Responsibilities:

This is the right time for Good Shepherd to focus on an intentional and strategic fundraising program. We are looking for an exceptional development professional who can help us create a fundraising program based on best practices and in accordance with ethical fundraising principles. Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to): building a robust and strategic fundraising program including direct mail, annual giving, major gifts, grants and planned giving; carry a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects; develop and manage an annual program budget, as well as ongoing analysis and reporting to the CEO and board; build a culture of philanthropy among staff and board; goal setting, coaching and performance management for direct reports, and contribute to the strategic vision and goals of the overall organization. The salary range for this position is $100,000 and $125,000, depending on experience. Good Shepherd is currently operating in a hybrid model of in-person and remote work. This is evaluated regularly and subject to change. 

Education, Skills and Experience:An experienced fundraising professional with 10-plus years of progressive experience and a successful record in best practices, operations (including donor database management), building impactful donor relationships and increasing contributed revenue.Bachelor’s degree or higher, CFRE preferred. A strategic senior-level professional with excellent critical thinking, communications and problem-solving skills to join the leadership team of an organization that is experiencing strong and steady growth.A fundraising specialist seeking a position where mission is front and center and impact is visible each and every day.A passion for helping patients and families dealing with serious illness and loss. A professional looking to join a team that values respect, communication and diversity.
