Job Overview

Amazon Robotics is seeking a motivated and hands on Test Engineering Mechanical Manager to lead a team of hardware test engineers. The hardware test team is a multi-disciplinary environment of mechanical/electrical/software/quality engineers and technicians dedicated to advancing the knowledge of robotics and how millions of customer orders are fulfilled every day. In this role you will lead a team in testing new and existing robotic technologies, working alongside the development organizations from concept to product delivery, informing the design teams along the way and verifying that our products meet and exceed expectations. You will need a background or familiarity with mechatronics, robotics, fixture design and development, and test strategy.

Key job responsibilities

  • Owning the delivery of test strategies and results to support development and deployment of new robotic and automated solutions.

  • Scoping, managing, and delivering multiple technical projects in parallel from concept to production

  • Recruiting and developing great people; continually raising the bar

  • Evaluating and identifying improvements to the overall test processes

  • Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, and partners

  • Interfacing with engineering managers, product management, and/or program management to create test strategies to inform development and verify requirements.

A day in the life

You will work daily with our development team throughout the development cycle providing data to inform design decisions and ultimately verifying that all product requirements are met. This happens at your computer writing test plans, in the labs gathering data, designing and building new fixtures, helping to debug early prototypes, developing new methodologies, and looking into the future. This role needs the candidate to be adaptable as they work in an ever evolving environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS / MS Mechanical Engineering (or similar field)

  • 10+ yrs of experience in mechanical engineering

  • 3+ years of management experience

  • 3+ years in testing related role

  • Familiar with industry standard CAD & FEA tools, industry trends, sensors

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate an engineering team

  • Ability to manage a process driven testing mentality, driven to the highest standards

  • Commitment to rigorous testing & validation practices

  • Experience with the project management of technical projects a plus

  • Strong organizational and planning skills

  • Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Robotics and/or automation Experience

  • Proven track record of testing products for industrial use

  • Experience managing challenging assignments and schedules

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
