The Process Engineer is responsible for supporting the manufacturing operation through direct participation and commitment to World Class Manufacturing in the areas of safety, cost, quality, and delivery of existing/new products, processes, methods. Responsible for initiating, developing, implementing and maintaining production processes and equipment. Defines process parameters and provides engineering support to maintain process equipment, insuring manufacturing meets established product specifications, quality standards, productivity objectives, lead times and safety standards. The incumbent identifies and pursues projects, which require experience and judgment to deal with a variety of variables. Projects frequently involve interaction with other disciplines and occasionally with customers.
Projects are typically significant assignments within the annual plant objectives and may involve new products or processes and/or expansion of capabilities. Considerable ingenuity and ability to work independently would be expected. The incumbent may supervise 1-2 non-exempt technicians or mechanics and provide technical direction to less experienced engineers, group leaders, and operators.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS AND TASKS
Improve production efficiency and enhance profitability through the application of World Class Manufacturing principles using Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools.
Provide hands-on assistance to Manufacturing and Maintenance personnel on the production floor to identity opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions.
Improve manufacturing capability, process control, product quality, and fixed or variable costs.
Responsible for various capital project activities from the bidding process, completing the appropriation, supervising the installation, and start up, to the completion of capital and non-capital projects in any technical area of the plant.
Lead, direct, develop, and train personnel on new processes, equipment, and procedures as required while maintaining existing process documentation.
Write project reports and make oral presentations of work progress to articulate and convey project developments to all appropriate supervisory, management, and manufacturing personnel.
Maintain technical competence and keep informed on new developments in materials, process technology, and product applications to ensure that the most appropriate methods and materials are used.
Supports activities surrounding facility compliance with applicable corporate and governmental guidelines, rules, and regulations pertaining to health, safety, and environmental issues.
Support of the Thermal Spray and Rokide product lines providing technical support to both the internal and external customer base
Support ISO activity
Self-motivated with the ability to gather and coordinate resources to resolve system issues and complete projects
Training and demonstrated understanding of statistical methods especially relating to SPC and Six Sigma principles
Previous experience with manufacturing and process optimization
Experience with new process implementation in a production environment
Seasoned knowledge of engineering theories and principles that would normally be acquired through a Bachelor’s degree (Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering preferred) and 3-5 years’ experience in an appropriate manufacturing environment.
