City of Northampton Traveling Nurse in Northampton, Massachusetts
Traveling Nurse Location: School, Northampton, MA 01060 Department: School Job Status: Full-Time Shift: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM Days: Mon., Tue., Wed., Thu., Fri. DEFINITION The Traveling Nurse will perform all relevant duties in the Northampton Public Schools health offices relating to the care of students and staff. The Traveling Nurse will provide support for the other school nurses during screenings, health education presentations, and absences. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide appropriate care for ill or injured students and staff. Collect, report and record subjective and objective data for students and staff health issues in an accurate and timely manner. Collaborate in the plan of care for eliminating, minimizing or accepting health problems. Assist in providing for the nursing/medical care needs of physically handicapped pupils as required in their educational plans. Provide the school nurse with information about nursing interventions and Student/staff responses to care. Assist the school physician with physical exams and other related activities including health screenings. Perform hearing and vision screenings. Provide emergency care in case of injury or sudden illness. Attend district wide health services meetings. Fill in for the other school nurses for absences. Performs other work-related activities as required or as situation dictates. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience: Graduate of an approved registered nursing program and is currently licensed as a registered nurse (RN) in Massachusetts required. Three years\' experience in school health or pediatric/adolescent health preferred. Knowledge, Skill & Ability - Working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern public and school health nursing. Knowledge of applicable state and local public and school health laws and regulations. Familiarity with community facilities and resources providing medical and related social services. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, school personnel, physicians, parents, community agencies and the general public. Ability to maintain pertinent and confidential medical records and charts. Knowledgeable in vision/hearing, growth/development, immunization and the laws pertaining to child abuse. Experience with Microsoft Word, and HealthMaster. Qualified to perform hearing and vision screenings. CPR and First Aid Certification. MISC. INFORMATION This is a Full-time 40 hour per week position: Monday - Friday MA DESE Certification and Official Transcripts Required. Must have acceptable MA CORI and SAFIS National Fingerprint Background Checks prior to employment. Must submit proof of COVID-19 certification or qualify for medical or religious exemption per the Northampton Association of School Employees (NASE) Collective Barraging Agreement.
