Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dynamic professional to serve as the Emerging Contaminants Water Lead , focusing on developing innovative and practical solutions to address complex technical challenges related to PFAS and other emerging contaminants in water.
This position offers the flexibility of remote work , with a preference for candidates based near Columbus, OH .
The Environment and Agriculture Business Line conducts environmental services across compliance, ecology, and restoration. As a part of these services, Battelle provides restoration research, characterization, design, and remediation for complex environmental issues.
The selected individual will lead Battelle’s efforts to capture and execute a robust portfolio of contracts which will involve complex and innovative environmental projects to address emerging contaminants in wastewater, groundwater, drinking water, and surface water. The position will initially be largely focused on per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) but will also focus on other contaminants of emerging concern. You will engage with cross-disciplinary project teams which may include multiple engineering and science disciplines, depending on the project scope. Your coworkers will range from new graduates to those with 30+ years of experience.

Responsibilities
Serve as Battelle’s primary technical and strategic point of contact for water treatment solutions for government and commercial growth in PFAS and other emerging contaminants working closely with Battelle technical staff, government business development, and commercial sales.
Serve as an effective Project/Program Manager and lead the growth of Battelle’s water practice targeting an annual business volume of up to $20M in 3 to 5 years.
Lead the recruiting, development, and growth of a team to execute water treatment solutions for PFAS and other emerging contaminants. Where possible, leverage Battelle’s existing internal resources, proprietary technologies, and analytical tools.
Serve as Battelle’s face in the water industry by representing Batelle in industry associations, as well as representing Battelle at emerging contaminant and other environmental conferences. Support/provide strategic leadership to Battelle’s own environmental conferences.
Contribute recommendations to leadership on next area of focus beyond PFAS, including establishing potential for pipeline with business development colleagues (both government and commercial) and brainstorming on internal areas of investment and technical development for staff.
Assist in development of successful pricing strategies considering identified risks and solicitation requirements and competitive positioning. Recommend and collaborate with the appropriate Battelle business unit and executive leaders on the approval of all pricing strategies and all final proposals for submission to clients.
Candidates Will Demonstrate:
Client-facing water industry leader in PFAS with the ability to identify future business opportunities for both commercial, state/local, and federal government clients, contributing to overall business growth.
Strong technical acumen in water treatment design and operation and the ability to attract the necessary talent for building a water treatment practice.
Success leading, developing, and executing capture teams.
Experience effectively managing cost reimbursable, firm-fixed-price, time and materials and performance-based remediation contracts.
Strong understanding of applicable regulations and visibility into changing regulatory environment as it applies to water treatment and water management.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field with 8 years of experience or master’s degree with 5 years of experience or PhD with 2 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience.
Recognized as an expert in addressing emerging contaminants in water, and PFAS specifically.
Program management experience, overseeing management of $20M programs or larger.
Consideration will be placed on those who have experience with commercial industries and state/local governments.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Significant travel to client locations and conferences is required.
Applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person, as defined by U.S. export control laws.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ Years’ Experience successfully managing projects, programs, and/or people.
