We are currently seeking a GC/MS Environmental Analytical Chemist . This is a position located in Norwell, MA
Battelle’s Norwell Analytical Chemistry Services Laboratory (ACS) is a nationally recognized environmental and agricultural chemistry laboratory that has specialized in non-routine analyses for government and industry since 1980. We are now seeking a Master Technician to support our expanding laboratory operations.
Candidate must display initiative, strong work ethic, ability to work in a collaborative environment and commitment to excellence.
Implement analytical methodologies, acquire materials needed, perform standard preparation and validation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Independently analyze environmental samples by GC/MS, GC/FID, and GC/ECD, evaluate data for acceptability and produce data packages.
Enter data and observations into LIMS.
Conduct and document appropriate quality control and quality assurance procedures for monitoring and evaluating the quality of analytical data, recognizing and highlighting deviations from the approved methods and project plans.
Perform moderately complex mathematical calculations, data analysis, and data manipulations, and prepare data for study directors, principal analytical investigators, or project managers, as requested.
Operate, monitor, and perform routine maintenance on standard laboratory instruments such as HPLC, GC, GC/MS.
Prepare analytical standards.
Preparation of dilutions of analytical extracts.
Track project and personal progress against milestones and report deviations from plan to supervisor.
Assist in technical planning of analytical tasks. Encouraged to make recommendations and suggestions for solving technical problems.
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or other physical science, with eight to ten years of experience
Associate degree in chemistry and a minimum of ten years of chemistry laboratory work experience
Strong knowledge of GC/ECD, GC/MS, and/or GC/FID systems and operation.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of analytical methods and troubleshooting processes.
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
Knowledge of LC/MS/MS systems and operation.
Experience in the analysis of environmental samples by LC/MS/MS
Proficiency in Analyst® and Multiquant™ software platforms.
Proficiency in Chemstation® and Enviroquant™ software platforms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Understanding of EPA GLP guidelines and agricultural regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision or as part of a team
