The Trial Court Security Department is made up of over 1,000 dedicated Court Officers and Associate Court Officers who are assigned to each courthouse in the state. The Security Department contributes to the Trial Court\'s mission to deliver justice with dignity and speed by providing a safe and secure environment for the administration of justice. The Department continuously works to deliver effective security by: *Preventing threats from gaining access to court buildings *Reacting quickly and effectively to mitigate any security incident *Applying technology and expertise to minimize security risks To become a Massachusetts Court Officer, a candidate must complete a thorough application and screening process involving 10 separate steps. A candidate must successfully complete each step. 1. Court Officer Entry Exam (\$100 Fee, waiver available) 2. Submit Application 3. Qualification\'s Assessment 4. Physical Abilities Test (PAT) 5. Panel Interview 6. Criminal Record Check 7. Background Investigation 8. Medical Exam & Drug Screening 9. Appointment 10.Completion of Academy Training 11.Field Training Assignment 12.Court Assignments Minimum Requirement: High School diploma or equivalne and at least 2 years in law enforcement, corrections, the military, loss prevention, emergency medical services, or direct care social services. A Bachelor degree from an accredited educational institution may substitute for required work experience.
