Position Overview

The Payroll Manager will process weekly payroll for approximately 400 union and non-union employees, weekly and monthly compliance reporting, and quarterly and annual payroll taxes. The successful candidate will process payroll on time, accurately, and in compliance with local, state and federal requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned.

  • Process in house, weekly payroll for union and non-union employees by way of established procedures and timelines

  • Remit payroll taxes, child support and benefit deductions in a timely accurate manner

  • Submit certified payroll reports as required per project

  • Works in cooperation with HR for onboarding, benefits and employee matters

  • Set up new hires and report to state

  • Enroll and de-enroll eligible non-union employees in 401k, STD and Health Insurance

  • Process wage garnishments and tax levies

  • Respond to employee inquiries and verification of employment requests

  • Maintain union rates and fringe benefit changes

  • Create, reconcile and pay monthly union reports

  • Process quarterly payroll tax reconciliation

  • Complete CORI, Background checks and badging as required by project

  • Enroll and report payroll as required for OCIP/CCIP projects

  • Assist with annual insurance audits WC

  • Answer union audits as required

  • Monitor and respond to unemployment requests from the state

  • Process W2s, 1095s, annual payroll taxes, 401k, fringe benefits annually

  • Handle requests from customers for annual or periodic information required to maintain qualified status (prequals)

Position Requirements/Preferred Skills, Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree and 4 years of related payroll experience or the equivalent years of work experience; professional payroll certification a plus.

  • Previous union payroll processing experience strongly preferred.

  • Understanding of the accounting cycle desired

  • Understanding of payroll related tax filings, state and federal laws, worker’s compensation and related audits, and Mass Sick Time Law, MAPFML

  • Demonstrated ability to use software to update rates, fringe benefits, and other information

  • Excellent verbal / written communication and customer service skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office programs especially MS Excel

  • Ability to work autonomously, stay on top of deadlines and pay close attention to detail

  • Desire to grow with a company and advance in career

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times

Must have the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English, cooperate, and collaborate with multiple levels of customer, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors and suppliers, and other contractor organizations.
