Berkshire Health Systems Lab Processor/Courier in Pittsfield, Massachusetts
DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
Being knowledgeable and responsible for the transporting of specimens and supplies under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the hospital and laboratory. Recognize how the courier position and duties relate to the overall function of the laboratory and the hospital in view of patient care.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
Experience:
On the job experience as a courier in a hospital setting preferred.
Education and Training:
High school diploma or equivalent
License, Certification & Registration:
DRIVER - Valid Driver's License
Other Requirements:
Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule, organize, and plan work.
Collect specimens from physician’s offices, nursing homes, and Fairview Hospital. Deliver supplies, documents, medications and equipment to physician’s offices, nursing homes, Fairview Hospital, North County Laboratory, Rural Health Clinics, Legal offices Must follow DOT regulations for the transportation of biological specimens.
Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts.
Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress, to ensure against errors.
Effective communication skills, use of computer systems, listening, speaking, writing and reading.
Knowledge of HIS and LIS.
Responsible for upkeep of courier vehicle, oil changes, inspections and cleanliness.
