Berkshire Health Systems Staff Nurse - Renal in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION

  • Registered Nurse is the designation given to an individual who is licensed to practice professional nursing, holds ultimate responsibility for direct and indirect nursing care, is a graduate of an approved school for professional nursing, and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse pursuant to M.G.L. c.112. Included in such responsibility is providing nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, planning and restoration for optimal functioning and comfort, of those they serve.

    The primary function of the nephrology nurse is the holistic care of the End Stage Renal Dialysis patient. The nephrology nurse functions as a health care team leader responsible for the safe delivery of patient-centered, goal oriented care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the End Stage Renal Dialysis patient. The nephrology nurse collects, assesses, documents, and analyzes patient information before, and after dialysis in order to maintain and/or improve the quality of patient care through continuous evaluation and ongoing revision of interventions as stated in the plan of care. The nephrology nurse identifies learning needs, assesses readiness to learn, plans and delivers teaching content utilizing available resources, evaluates, and documents patient understanding through interactions with patient and family.

  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)

  • Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

  • Has a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures.

  • Current experience in nephrology nursing/dialysis preferred.

  • At least one year experience in critical care nursing preferred.

  • Two year medical/ surgical nursing required.

  • Education and Training:

  • Associates Degree in Nursing Required.

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing Preferred.

  • Successful completion of critical care course, and arrythmia course required.

  • License, Certification & Registration:

  • Currently licensed as a Professional RN in Massachusetts.

  • Must be CPR certified.

  • Certification as a Nephrology Nurse preferred.

  • Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrates continuing education in accordance with State regulations.

  • Assures compliance with unit-specific scope of practice.

  • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.

  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met.

  • Participation in the on-call rotation required.
