Berkshire Health Systems Staff Nurse in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

This is a temporary position 3-6 months. This positions hours vary from 7:00am-3:30pm to 8:00am-4:30pm to 9:00am-5:30pm.
  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION

  • The Oncology Nurse Navigator assists patients and family members through the cancer continuum of care. The process begins by educating the community on the benefits of early detection and encouraging individuals to get appropriate screening exams. Once a cancer is diagnosed, the patient is followed through the entire continuum to ensure that the recommended treatment is received in a timely, coordinated manner to improve outcomes. The Navigator provides education, psychosocial support, facilitates interaction across a multidisciplinary team of providers, and serves as an advocate to ensure all needs and concerns are addressed. Effectively assists the patient to negotiate the complex health care system which requires a broad clinical background.

  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in both acute and outpatient services. Must be well versed in all aspects of oncology nursing including prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and end of life care. Must be comfortable in dealing with gender specific issues related to prostate, breast, ovarian, colorectal and other cancers. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently. Experience in gathering and presenting detailed information to a wide range of populations is required, including facilitating support groups and at multidisciplinary cancer conferences.

  • Education and Training:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Associate's degree required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Must be CPR certified.

  • License, Certification & Registration:

  • ONCC - Oncology Nurse Certification required within twelve months of completion of orientation to position.

  • RN License - Licensed as an RN in Massachusetts

  • Other Requirements:

  • Computer experience preferred with ability to track and maintain data. Required to travel to North and South County sites. Provides own transportation to and from sites. MA Driver’s License.
