Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates and models Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth Core Values at all times.

  • Is an integral member of the Surgical Services Department performing a wide range of administrative duties in support of the Pre-Admission Testing Department.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with patients, staff, nursing leadership and physician office personnel.

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills with an attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize the needs of the PAT Department.

  • Manages verbal and written communications; including telephone calls, communications/reports, and transcription and distribution of meeting minutes.

  • Acts as a liaison between Surgical Offices and the PAT Department to facilitate improved communication.

  • Demonstrates excellent understanding of medical terminology and surgical procedures.

  • Performs various clerical duties, including order entry, lab/radiology requisitions, making patient charts, data entry, charges, registration, data collection and statistics as needed.

  • Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge in critical thinking, problem identification and solving activities.

  • Compiles and prepares data related to the PAT Department as requested.

  • Collaborates with administrative and surgical team members and leadership on a regular basis.

  • Ensures all booking forms are complete prior to booking or returns to surgical offices for further clarification.

  • Assist with Preoperative COVID screening appointments as indicated

  • Works within CWS to prepare and/or modify scheduled procedures or appointments as indicated.

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area

  • Participates in department based management performance improvement activities

  • Maintains open communication with PAT leadership.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Accurate typing skills of 30 WPM

  • Excellent computer and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, dynamic work environment

  • Recent Pre-Anesthesia Testing experience required (scheduling procedures and understanding of surgical processes within CWS)

  • Must possess critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Ability to concentrate and prioritize in a distracting environment

  • Medical Terminology required

  • Excellent customer service skills required; ability to interact positively with patients and families at all times; demonstrated appropriate phone etiquette

Education Required

  • Computer Skills with MediTech, ORM, CWS, Word, Excel, Outlook

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
