Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

In accordance with the mission of Jordan Physician Associates, Inc., this position is to evaluate JPA claims to ensure timely filing submission of clean claims. Also, performs charge reconciliation and coordinate work assignments.

  • Accurate data entry of demographic information, charge entry, CPT/HCPC codes and ICD-10 diagnosis coding.

  • Assigns CPT-4 and ICD-10 CM codes as appropriate.

  • Resolve any billing interface charge entry errors to ensure timely filing to third party payers.

  • Investigates and follows up of all outstanding accounts including collections and denials in collaboration with Office Manager and Central Billing Office.

  • Demonstrates a positive customer service attitude/behavior.

  • Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with all staff and physicians.

  • Has working knowledge of various insurance plans.

  • Understanding of computer system in order to assist patients with billing problems.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with difficult patients in an attempt to resolve any questions regarding charges and payments.

  • Communicates documentation discrepancies, coding definitions and questions to Billing Manager for clarification.

  • Performs coding and documentation quality monitoring activities.

  • Performs charge entry of various services and reconciliation of charges.

  • Follow-up related to incorrect demographic/insurance information, third party denials, requests for medical record documentation, unapplied payment follow-up, and special billing requirements.

  • Responsible for professional atmosphere to include appropriate attire and neat, well stocked working area.

  • Accepts other duties as assigned

  • Responsible for compliance with Organizational Integrity through raising questions and promptly reporting actual or potential wrongdoing.

  • Participates in and coordinates with organizational process to collect and evaluate information about hazards and safety practices that are used to identify safety management issues. Adheres to established policies and procedures, which may include wearing of personal protective equipment.

  • Participates in and fosters a performance improvement approach that includes both intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities.

Experience/Knowledge/skills Required

  • Formal training in ICD-10 CM and CPT coding or working knowledge of ICD-10 CM and CPT coding principles.

  • Ability to independently research and investigate questionable situations regarding patient accounts.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and disease process.

  • Knowledge of basic computer operations.

  • Ability to balance daily activities.

  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to positively interact with public and peers.

  • Current knowledge of the health insurance industry.

  • Working knowledge of accounts receivable management.

Education Required

High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent required.

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
