The State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 11 regional programs. It establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs are safe and effective. A cover letter referencing the correct position must be submitted as part of the application process and attached “as relevant” to the requisition.* *_ _ _Job Opening: _ TheState Reclamation and Mosquito Control Boardseeks applicants for a Field Technician 1 to perform the following duties: The Massachusetts State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board (SRB), within the Department of Agricultural Resources, oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 12 regional programs. SRB establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure safe and effective mosquito control programs. The Plymouth County Mosquito Control District is accepting resumes for a FIELD TECHNICIAN I position. The Field Technician reports directly to the General Foreman. _Responsibilities include: _ * Keep trucks, equipment and Project facilities clean and in good working order. * Apply pesticides according to label with truck-mounted equipment and by hand. * Hand clean drainage ditches of blockages and debris. * Survey for mosquito larvae and adults. * Operation and maintenance of power equipment such as chain saw, brush cutter. * Prepare daily online activity reports. * Assist in evaluations of pesticide efficacy. * Assist in aerial application of pesticides. _After Selection, Applicant Must Learn and/or Obtain_ * Massachusetts pesticide applicators permit, Ma hoisting license. * Operation and maintenance of spray equipment. * Maintenance of power equipment. * Elements of mosquito biology and identification. * Knowledge of street and topography of assigned communities. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Willingness to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions with power equipment. * Ability to carry and lift weight consistent with use of axe, shovel, etc. for brush and stream cleaning. * Must be able to lift 50lbs. * Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain * Willingness to work odd hours, and overtime, as situation demands. * Personal neatness and demonstrated professionalism and ability to interact with public and officials, both in person and by telephone. * Reliability - Must be punctual and dependable and comply with work schedules. o June-September 2AM-10AM, October-May 6:30AM-3PM * Additional licenses such as CDL A or hoisting engineer license is a plus but is not required. * Must possess a current valid Massachusetts driver’s license and an excellent driving record. * Must possess or obtain a Massachusetts pesticide applicators permit within 30 days. * Show the ability to be self-directed and manage projects. Must pass a Project-provided physical examination. * Position is subject to random drug testing. Preferred Qualifications - See additional qualifications in the job description. Preference may be given to current Mass—pesticide license holders. Possession of additional licenses, such as CDL A or B or a hoisting engineer license, is a plus but is not required.
