Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests and quality control procedures in assigned areas.

  • Departmentalized technicians will have increased technical responsibility in areas of specialization.

  • Assess and report acceptable results. Troubleshoot and document problems and out-of-control results to level of capability. Notify supervisor of problems.

  • Perform and document routine and monthly maintenance of laboratory instrumentation. Notify supervisor of operational difficulties.

  • Maintain inventory sheets in assigned areas and notify coordinator of needs.

  • Assist in training students and new employees.

  • Operate computer including all routines dealing with patient data and quality control.

  • Perform phlebotomies as requested.

  • Maintain laboratory work areas in a clean and safe manner.

  • Attend laboratory meetings.

  • Attend in service education meetings and educational seminars as requested and other duties as needed.

MLT Education/Experience/Registration/Certification Required

  • Able to utilize analyzers and computer proficiency preferred.

  • Six months of experience in a laboratory environment.

  • Two year Medical Lab Technician Program/Associates Degree.

  • MLT (ASCP) license obtained within 6 months of hire.

MT Education/Experience/Registration/Certification Required:

  • B.S. in a science related field.

  • MT ASCP, HEW obtained within 6 months of hire.
