Job Description:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains confidentiality of patient information according to established Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  2. Verifies provider schedules and prepares all records as needed.

  3. Reviews records for accuracy.

  4. Retrieves records as required.

  5. Receives, sorts, and files all incoming paperwork. Reviews paperwork to make sure it has been reviewed and signed off by a provider

prior to being filed.

  1. Updates year bands on all records if necessary. Assists secretaries in preparing charts for new patients on a daily basis.

  2. Maintains the record area in a neat and orderly manner at all times.

  3. Works under the direction of the office manager.

  4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Organizational Responsibilities

  1. Follows hospital and department policies with special attention to safety, dress, attendance and punctuality, and display of ID badge.

Subscribes to hospital’s mission statement, code of ethics, and standards of conduct.

  1. Handles all work-related information in a confidential manner, as outlined in Confidentiality Policy B.91. Recognizes and respects each

patient’s right to privacy, and understands that this is protected by statute. Understands that looking up patient information not needed for job

duties is prohibited and is

grounds for immediate dismissal.

  1. Treats customers with courtesy and compassion and responds to requests in a timely manner.

  2. Works effectively with members of the team so that they meet constantly changing needs and deliver care that is customer oriented and

cost effective.

  1. Demonstrates initiative and creativity to continuously improve services, departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other

activities that affect quality.

  1. Plans, organizes, and renders care for (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) patients within an assigned area.

  2. Performs work responsibilities while staying in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Understands and agrees touphold the Hospital Compliance Plan.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. High school graduate or G.E.D.

  2. Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine.

  3. Knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures helpful.

  4. Ability to communicate effectively and confidentially on all levels.

  5. Ability to organize and prioritize work; ability to work accurately under stress.

  6. Ability to distinguish words, letters, and numbers in their proper order
