Consumer Lending Underwriter

The primary duties for the position are to process and underwrite secured and unsecured Consumer and Equity Credit Loan applications, to approve loans within credit authority or provide recommendations for loans above the level of authority, and to recommend variations from established policy. The position performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree, and commits Salem Five in matters that have significant financial impact.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following; however other duties may be assigned as necessary:
Process and underwrite secured and unsecured Consumer and Equity Credit Loan applications.
Approve loans within specifically defined credit authority; prepare recommendations for loans above such authority.
Review applications for complete and proper credit investigation and underwrite into the FIS software system.
Verify the correct credit application has been utilized and the proper disclosures have been provided to the applicant.
Develop, analyze, and prepare subordination agreements.
Adhere to Salem Five's Service Standards.
Follow all procedures as outlined in the Consumer Loan Policy Manual.
Communicate and coordinate with the attorney or closing store in preparing appropriate documents for closing.
Assist with Document Custodian responsibility in accordance with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines.
Assist other departments and employees with questions and issues regarding Consumer Loan products.
Keep informed about consumer lending developments and trends; including regulatory requirements.
Assist department manager in preparation of department reports.
Demonstrates compliance with banking business laws and regulations as defined in company policies and procedures pertinent to the position.
Regular attendance is essential to this position.
Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.
NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Ensure proper closing documentation packages are being utilized.
Utilize available resources and knowledge to reinforce the training of Bank/Department personnel.
Assist the Mortgage Loan Originators and loan staff when needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of high school education, bachelor’s degree preferred; or minimum of one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft applications and internet use for research purposes required. Knowledge of the Originate Process System recommended but not required.
